A practical guide, not a promise of magic
What is the best iPhone home screen organizer for a Mac?
Thomas Chung ·
I build an iPhone home screen organizer, so you should take any ‘best app’ claim from me with a healthy amount of suspicion. The answer depends on whether your problem is moving icons, hiding clutter, or figuring out why the layout feels wrong.
If you know the moves, use your iPhone
Apple’s edit mode is free, already installed, and does not require a Mac. If the job is ‘put Maps in the dock and move three apps into a folder,’ it is the best tool for that job. App Library is even quicker when you want to hide an icon without deleting the app.
A checklist works too: pick four things you need today, clear your first page, and leave the rest searchable. I would not install a new app just to do those moves once.
If you need a diagnosis, use a bigger view
A messy layout is harder to fix when you can only see one page at a time. Unjiggle reads it over USB on a Mac, gives you a free score and breakdown, and shows where the friction is. Pro adds plans you can preview, apply, and undo. It is deliberately narrower than a general iPhone manager: it does not clean photos or storage.
There is also a free open-source command-line engine for people who prefer a terminal. The engine is public; the Mac app and its paid experience are separate. I would rather you choose the right tool than mistake ‘more features’ for ‘better.’
What I would check before choosing anything
Ask whether the tool can show a proposed layout before writing to your phone, what it reads over USB, and what happens if you want to undo a change. Check the hardware requirements. Unjiggle’s Mac app needs Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later, plus an iPhone connected by USB.
If you are on Windows, Unjiggle’s Mac app is not your answer. If you only want to hide icons, App Library probably is. If you want to understand the whole layout before changing it, try the free scan and decide afterward.
Bottom line: ‘Best’ is a question about the job, not a feature count. Start with Apple’s free tools; use Unjiggle when the problem is seeing and planning the whole layout.
