A practical guide, not a promise of magic
Can you organize your iPhone home screen from a Mac?
Thomas Chung ·
I used to look for a way to drag my iPhone apps around on a bigger screen. The answers were either an old iTunes tutorial or ‘just do it on your phone.’ Neither was the answer I wanted.
Start with what the phone already does
You can rearrange apps directly on the iPhone. Touch and hold an icon, enter edit mode, and move it to another page or into a folder. Apple’s App Library can get less-used apps off the Home Screen without deleting them. If you know exactly what you want, you may not need a Mac at all.
The trouble starts when you have five pages and no idea which one to fix first. Moving icons one by one is a lousy way to answer a planning question. I wanted to see the whole layout before touching anything.
What Unjiggle actually does
On an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later, plug in your iPhone over USB and tap Trust on the phone. Unjiggle reads the layout: apps, folders, and pages. The free scan gives you a score, diagnosis, and share cards. It does not rearrange your phone just because you connected it.
Pro can propose a new layout. You see a preview before deciding to apply it, and an applied change has a backup so you can undo it. The free scan is for finding the problem; applying a plan is a separate choice. If the preview looks wrong, don’t apply it.
The tradeoff I would want to know first
Unjiggle is a Mac app, not a Windows organizer and not an iPhone app. An optional AI result sends documented layout details to an AI provider; the scan and score do not. If a tutorial promises that any computer can rearrange any iPhone with no setup, I’d be skeptical too.
My suggestion: do a free scan, identify the messiest page, and decide whether Apple’s own edit mode is enough. A good tool should help you make that call, including the answer ‘I can do this myself.’
Bottom line: Yes, you can inspect an iPhone layout from a Mac and, with Pro, preview and apply a plan. You don’t have to buy anything to see what needs fixing.

Curious about your own layout?
Take the free 60-second quiz in your browser. It uses your answers, not a scan of your phone. For a real layout score, you need the free Mac app and a USB connection.
