Privacy Policy, in plain English

The short version
- USB scan: Reads apps, folders, and positions. The score stays on your Mac. No photos, messages, contacts, or browsing history.
- Optional AI: Only when you ask for it do layout details go to an AI provider. Included Pro AI goes through our server; your own key goes direct. An encrypted reply may mention apps and stays on our server for 15 minutes.
- Mac app: No usage analytics or crash reporting. App detail, license, and update lookups use the network without sending your layout.
- Website: Cookieless visit counts, video plays, some quiz actions, and link clicks. Our host can see your IP in ordinary request logs.
Here's exactly what each of those cases means.
What does Unjiggle read from my iPhone?
Here is what the Mac app uses and when it talks to the internet:
- iPhone layout— app names, positions, folder names, page order. Read from your iPhone over USB when you scan. Stored on your Mac. If you use Pro's included AI, it goes through our server to Anthropic. With your own key, it goes directly from your Mac to Anthropic or OpenAI. We do not store the request layout.
- Your share cards— generated on your Mac. You decide whether to save or post them. We don't upload or store them.
- Optional app-use information — if synced Screen Time records are readable on your Mac, Unjiggle can use when apps were last opened, how often, and time spent. Access may require Full Disk Access; the scan works without it. If you choose AI, days since an app was last opened can be included in that request.
- License check — if you bought Pro, the app occasionally asks our server whether your license is still valid (e.g. after a refund). It sends only your order ID, but not your layout. When you use Unjiggle AI, the app also sends your license key to our server to confirm Pro. The key contains your purchase email and order ID. We do not store the key. We count AI results under a code made from your order ID, not under your email.
- App details from Apple— the app sends the App Store IDs of your apps to Apple's public lookup service to get their names and categories.
- Update checks — the Mac app checks unjiggle.com for a signed update feed automatically or when you choose Check for Updates. The request contains no home-screen layout or saved feedback. If you install an update, the signed DMG downloads from our file host. Like any website request, the hosts can see standard network information such as your IP address.
- AI limits — our server counts the AI results and the AI cost of each license each day and month, and adds up our monthly AI cost. The counters hold no layout and no email, and we delete them within about 40 days. This is a limit, not analytics.
There is no analytics SDK or crash reporting in the Mac app. Optional AI requests are described next.
What happens when I choose AI?
The free Quick versions of Mirror and Obituary run locally without sending your layout to an AI provider. Their AI-powered versions and AI Stylist are separate choices.
The AI-powered versions of Mirror and Obituary, and AI Stylist, need details about your layout to write a result. When you ask for one, the app sends your app names, their App Store categories and the first words of their App Store descriptions, your folder names, app positions, and your organization score. If you type a request for AI Stylist, that goes too. If Unjiggle can read the optional Screen Time records on your Mac, the request can also include how many days ago you last opened some apps.
With Pro's included AI, the request goes through unjiggle.com to Anthropic. Our server checks your license and daily limit. We don't keep the layout you sent. We do keep the AI reply encrypted for 15 minutes so a retry or share card doesn't use another result. A reply may mention some of your apps. Anthropic processes the request under its commercial API terms.
If you add your own Anthropic or OpenAI key, the request goes from your Mac directly to that provider instead. We aren't in the middle. Your key stays in your Mac's Keychain.
What does the website measure?
- Aggregate, cookieless analytics — we use privacy-friendly web analytics (Vercel) to count page visits and see where visitors came from. It uses no tracking cookies and does no cross-site tracking. These aggregate reports do not tell us who you are. Our web host also keeps short request logs that can include your IP address.
- The archetype quiz— runs in your browser, no signup. When you start or finish, share a result, or click a buy, download, or email link, we log that action with a time and traffic source. A finished quiz can also log the resulting archetype and score (e.g. "Digital Hoarder, 42"), but no name or email. We log some other website link clicks, too. For journal links to the quiz, we keep daily and monthly totals by article for quiz-link clicks, quiz starts and finishes, and clicks on download, email, or buy links from a quiz result. We separately count direct clicks from articles to the Mac download, an email draft, or the Pro page. These are clicks, not installs, emails sent, or purchases; opening an email draft does not give us your address. We also count video plays, finishes and quiz-button clicks, then quiz and result-link actions by video source (for example, a website video or an Instagram Story). We log those actions with a time and source, too, without visitor IDs. We also count download, email-draft and Pro-page clicks from the homepage and privacy page. Our reports are totals, not a record of who watched. These database counters have no visitor IDs or cookies and expire after about 400 days.
What happens if I buy Pro?
If you buy Unjiggle Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We don't receive your full card number or security code. Stripe shares your email with us so we can deliver your license key and help you with support. We also keep the AI counters described above. A checkout link can carry a fixed label such as an article name or video source. Stripe includes that label with the order so we can total purchases and refunds by source. It is not a visitor ID, and we don't use tracking cookies. Our marketing reports store totals, not your email or order ID.
Who else handles data?
These companies help run the features described above:
- Anthropic — writes AI results for Unjiggle AI, and for your own Anthropic key.
- OpenAI — only if you add your own OpenAI key.
- Stripe — only if you buy Pro; processes payment and your email.
- Vercel — hosts unjiggle.com, the download, the cookieless analytics, and the Unjiggle AI server; keeps short request logs with IP addresses.
- Upstash — stores the AI counters, the 15-minute encrypted replies, and aggregate daily and monthly website action counts.
- Apple — App Store lookups.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no data brokers.
- No selling your data or sharing it with advertisers. An AI provider receives layout details only when you ask for an AI result, as explained above.
- No tracking cookies, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking.
- No uploading your layout just because you scanned your phone. AI replies may mention apps and are briefly cached as explained above.
Can I save feedback privately on my Mac?
Settings → AI lets you opt in to a private feedback log on your Mac. It records whether you previewed, dismissed, applied, undid, or rated a plan, plus the plan type (including which of the four preset modes you chose), time, a random ID for that preview, approximate number of changes and whether its score went up or down. Your ratings can put a liked preset first next time; Unjiggle never applies it without your choice. It does not save app names, folder names, your layout, or what you typed. The log never leaves your Mac. It is off by default, keeps at most 500 entries and removes entries older than 30 days when the app opens or another event is saved, and you can delete it in Settings → AI. Turning it off deletes the saved entries. This is separate from the consent to send an AI request when you use an AI feature. Any future sharing for product analytics or learning would require a separate opt-in.
How do I delete my data or ask a question?
Most of your data lives only on your Mac, so you already control it. In the app, Settings → AI → Delete saved feedback deletes the optional local log. Turning its switch off also deletes it. Settings → License lets you remove your license from this Mac. To ask about your purchase email or request its deletion, email support@unjiggle.com. We'll explain what we can remove and what payment records must be kept. Our server also keeps AI counters and, for 15 minutes, encrypted AI replies. To delete your counters sooner, email support@unjiggle.com.
Children
Unjiggle is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
